The Deadly Tower of Monsters : A Throwback Review

It was last year. One day I was really sick and had stayed in bed to recover for a couple of days.

The second day, when I started feeling better, I thought it’d be a good idea to pass some time on my PS4, but I wasn’t in shape to play a hardcore game. So, I said to myself it may be time to just chill with one of the old games, as they were just sitting on my cloud shelf.

Randomly, I chose the title “The Deadly Tower of Monsters”. I found it phony and not creative at all. I said to myself, if it’s an indie editor, maybe it could be able to find a better title!

But, I was proven wrong. Terribly wrong!

Gameplay

In “The Deadly Tower of Monsters” you play as one of three actors in a movie of the same name. It’s a top-down shooter, made to look like a low-budget 1950’s movie.

The story is that the director of the movie “The Deadly Tower of Monsters” is re-watching his project after many years of its release date. He comments all the game while you control the actors of the movie. These comments are one of the hilarious things about the game because they’re funny, well made and precise.

The gameplay is simple, but the storyline is quite amazing. You climb up the tower’s floors, passing by a diversity of “monsters”, which are either humans wearing costumes or puppets controlled by strings.

One more good thing about the game is the huge amount of weapons and upgrades you’ll find along the way. You won’t feel bored since there’s always something new to discover or to upgrade.

Also, the soundtrack is beautiful, it makes you feel like watching a 1950’s movie while taking control of the main actors!

Conclusion

Judging by its lame title, I started the game in the morning with the only intention of testing it. But, I ended up finishing it the same day. I just couldn’t stop, it was very intriguing and funny, so I didn’t notice as the time went by until the movie credits started rolling up announcing the end of the game. Yes, that’s how great this game is!
